When chance doesn't lead to success in matters of the heart, sometimes you need a little extra push. After all, as the widowed matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi’s motto goes: “Love needs all the help it can get!” But what if the matchmaker herself wants to get married? Then chaos is bound to ensue! Instead of confessing to the grumpy but upright Horace Vandergelder that she’s got her eye on him, Dolly tries to set him up with two other candidates at once. To make matters worse, Vandergelder’s employees, as well as his niece and her rebellious boyfriend, meddle in his already complicated love life. Even Dolly finds herself breaking a sweat.

The musical also swept the Tony Awards, taking home a total of ten of the coveted trophies. Now the hit musical is back at the Volksoper. In this new production at the Volksoper, director Martin G. Berger and filmmaker Jakob Brossmann explore what makes (romantic) relationships succeed, how to stay happy together, and how concepts of relationships have changed.
