“Masterpieces for Two” invites the audience on a multifaceted journey through the history of dance. In five outstanding duets, the dancers explore different forms of closeness, connection, and distance, presenting masterpieces by renowned choreographers, each of which opens up its own emotional and thematic space.

Created in 1911 by Michel Fokine, *Le Spectre de la Rose* tells the story of a young woman to whom the spirit of a rose appears in a dream. Set to Gustav Mahler’s *Songs of a Wayfarer* , Maurice Béjart created an iconic duet for two dancers. Emotional states—whether longing, loneliness, or farewell—find expression in Béjart’s choreography through the bodies of the two dancers. Angelin Preljocaj’s *Annonciation* is one of the best-known works by the French choreographer, who not only combines sacred music with electronic sounds in his creation but also reinterprets the biblical Annunciation to Mary. In *Variations Pour une Porte et un Soupir* , George Balanchine—inspired by Pierre Henry’s score, whose sounds evoke human sighs as well as the opening and closing of doors— shows his most experimental side. The program concludes with Jerome Robbins’ interpretation of Debussy’s *Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune*. In the minimalist atmosphere of a ballet studio, a subtle and sensual encounter between a female and a male dancer unfolds.
