With her hammered dulcimer—an instrument rich in overtones—Maria Ma has developed a uniquely virtuosic playing style. The sound of this ancient instrument, which is associated with Alpine folk music but originally hails from the Persian region, moves the audience.

Together with her ensemble, she blends ethereal soundscapes with earthy rhythms, repeatedly offering glimpses of her musical roots. Her atmospherically rich compositions move effortlessly between pop, jazz, and Alpine world music.

Her artistic versatility has led her, among other things, to join Gert Steinbäcker’s band, with whom she has been performing since 2016. Her debut album was produced by Christian Kolonovits; her discography now includes four studio albums.

With MARIA MA pur, she has performed at venues including Porgy & Bess, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and on stages throughout Austria.
