Klezmer & Us
Jewish violinist Pavel Shalman sets out on a journey of discovery: The program “Klezmer & Us” combines musical childhood memories with the present and takes the audience on a journey filled with virtuosity, beautiful melodies, and a dash of humor. Rousing uptempo dances and historical transcriptions meet original compositions that playfully incorporate elements of jazz, tango, and classical music. Yiddish vocal interludes lend the program additional emotional depth and connect the audience with the rich cultural tradition of klezmer. Fearless improvisations and unexpected twists make every concert a unique experience.
Pavel Shalman – violin, vocals; Boki Radenković – accordion, vocals
Electric Rose
Forgotten Jewish-Ukrainian songs by Rose Cohen are reinterpreted in Electric Rose by multi-instrumentalists Ilya Shneyveys and Sarah Myerson. The project brings an extraordinary musical legacy to the stage: Yiddish songs about love, loss, work, and migration, Hebrew liturgical chants, and Ukrainian folk songs.
Rose Cohen was born near Kyiv in 1897 and emigrated to the New World as a young woman. Her songs blend personal stories with the soundscapes of Eastern Europe and Jewish traditions. This gives rise to a powerful, cross-genre sound blending Balkan, Slavic, Sephardic, and Middle Eastern influences with elements of rock and electronica.
Sarah Myerson – vocals, ukulele, shofar, flute, vocoder, music box; Ilya Shneyveys – vocals, baglamadaki, keyboards, guitar, ukulele, flutes, ney
