Info
To celebrate their joint 11th anniversary, Paul Schuberth and Tomáš Novák are treating themselves to a new album—while remaining true to their unique and unmistakable blend of jazz, contemporary music, folk music, and imaginary folk music. *Fransenüberblick* brings together much of what the accordion-violin duo has developed over the past years: original compositions, reimagined standards, traditional pieces with a new twist and pseudo-traditional pieces in their old form, chansons, and texts set to music—including works by Jura Soyfer.
The album title refers not only to a piece by Paul Schuberth but also to the duo’s musical principle: the most diverse musical fringes come together to form a surprisingly harmonious whole. Whether this results in a quirky patchwork quilt or a finely crafted ear warmer is left up to the audience.
Paul Schuberth, a classically trained accordionist, moves between contemporary music, improvisation, and political songwriting. Tomáš Novák is a violinist, singer, and stylistic boundary-crosser between jazz, classical, folk, klezmer, and chanson.
