Un serán galego en Viena – Third Edition

An evening like a late gathering at the end of the day: voices, stories, music—and a space that slowly fills with life. In Galicia, they call this a “serán.” And it is precisely this feeling that takes over the Sargfabrik for one evening.

“Galician Night in Vienna” brings music and culture from the Atlantic coast into a new space of resonance. Not folklore on display, but a vibrant coming together: tradition meets the present, sound meets memory, Vienna meets Galicia. A dialogue that unfolds—between songs, stories, and shared moments.

At the heart of it all is a time of new beginnings and upheaval: the cultural flowering surrounding the Second Spanish Republic—and its abrupt silencing. Inspired by Jesús Bal y Gay, medieval sounds, Renaissance music, traditional melodies, and echoes of modernity weave together into a multi-layered soundscape. Here, music becomes a vessel of memory, a narrator of exile, loss, and carrying on.

What makes this evening special is what lies in between: listening together, pausing, and reflecting. Musicians from Galicia and Vienna come together as equals and create a space that is more than just a concert. And because a true “serán” is never just about music, there will also be a small culinary journey to Galicia: to taste, share, and raise a glass.

The concert is part of the Espazos Sonoros Festival, a music festival established in Galicia (Spain) with nearly two decades of history and an international focus.

Belén Bermejo – Host, vocals, percussion; Aliona Kalechyts-Piatrouskaya – vocals, violin; David Bellas – bagpipes, flute, asubíos; Nuno Estévez – accordion, Kan Zhang – viola da gamba, Andrés Díaz – flutes, Renaissance guitar, artistic director
