Info
Maria Mazzotta is one of the most compelling voices on the European world music scene. With great intensity and emotional depth, she moves between the musical traditions of southern Italy, Balkan grooves, and a contemporary musical language.
At the heart of her program is the album *Amoreamaro*—a multifaceted musical exploration of the various facets of love: tender and comforting, possessive and painful, healing and destructive all at once. Traditional songs from southern Italy are reimagined with new arrangements, poetic lyrics, and rhythmic forms such as the pizzica, whose repetitive power was once considered healing music.
Maria Mazzotta combines musical exploration with great artistic openness, developing an artistic expression that is deeply rooted in regional traditions while simultaneously reaching far beyond them.
Since the release of *Amoreamaro*, Maria Mazzotta has performed at renowned venues and festivals throughout Europe and beyond—from Paris to Bogotá, from WOMEX to the ORF Kulturhaus in Vienna. Together with Antonino De Luca on the accordion, she creates an intense musical dialogue full of energy and narrative power.
