Nazareth rose from performing in pubs, clubs, and dance halls in their native Scotland to become one of the most successful rock bands in the world.
They were pioneers who put Scottish rock on the international map, paving the way for many other great Scottish bands such as Simple Minds, Texas, Big Country, Del Amitri, and others.
The original four members first came together in 1968 in Pete Agnew’s band “The Shadettes,” renamed themselves “Nazareth” in 1970, and went on to record a string of worldwide hits.
Since the early 1970s, the band has been continuously writing new music, and their repertoire spans five decades. Songs like “Broken Down Angel,” “Bad Bad Boy,” “Turn On Your Receiver,” and “My White Bicycle” dominated the international charts, as did the mega-hits “Dream On,” “This Flight Tonight,” "Hair Of The Dog," and, of course, "Love Hurts."
The band has not only built up a huge fan base but has also influenced numerous major artists—some of whom have even covered Nazareth songs (including Guns N’ Roses with “Hair Of The Dog” and Metallica with “Please Don’t Judas Me”).
Although they gratefully accept the recognition for their studio recordings, Nazareth attributes their success primarily to one thing: touring, touring, and even more touring—and they’re still on the road, with no intention of ever stopping.
