Info
Baba Yaga is one of the most exciting new acts on the world music scene. Baba Yaga, a figure from Slavic mythology, serves as a source of musical inspiration: she embodies the conscious breaking down and blending of musical boundaries. The result is a virtuosic, fiery sound that immediately invites you to dance.
The sound remains pure and authentic: violin, double bass, guitar, vocals, accordion, and percussion—what more could you ask for? Their repertoire ranges from Balkan tunes, klezmer, swing, and gypsy jazz to Eastern dances and original compositions, with plenty of room for improvisation.
The five musicians from three countries have been playing together since 2022. In Austria, the band has performed at venues including Porgy & Bess, Metropol, ORF Radiokulturhaus, and the KlezMORE Festival; concerts in Germany, France, and Switzerland followed in 2025.
With their latest album *Grenzenlos* (released in 2024, Metropol Wien), Baba Yaga makes a clear statement: music without stylistic or geographical boundaries. The title stands for connection rather than exclusion and for a musical language that works without words.
Florian Gunacker – double bass, Raffaella della Gemma – violin, vocals, Jasmin Meiri – percussion, vocals, Anela Cindrak – accordion, David Mandlburger – guitar
