LIBRETTO BY MARCO COLTELLINI

Info

The story of Piramo and Tisbe became famous as a parody: in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream , it is performed by a troupe of craftsmen on the occasion of a wedding, but the tragic plot is turned into a comedy due to a lack of acting talent and dubious directorial ideas. Johann Adolph Hasse had nothing to do with this and took the unhappy love of the young Babylonian couple, who go to their deaths together, absolutely seriously. In his version, even the third person in the plot, Tisbe's despotic father, dies at the end. In Piramo e Tisbe , Hasse largely dispensed with the Baroque form of the da capo aria and instead developed a kind of through-composed music drama. The work was premiered in 1768 in a (still unidentified) palace outside Vienna, performed two years later in Laxenburg and then fell into oblivion for 250 years. Now it is returning to the Danube.
