Info

A gloomy curse hangs over him: only every seven years may the sailor, infamous as the "Flying Dutchman", go ashore and try to find a woman who will redeem him through her fidelity. Otherwise, he is doomed to wander the seas. Senta, Captain Daland's daughter, is aware of the Dutchman's fate and feels called upon to redeem him through her love. But can her obsession with this phantom prove itself in reality? In his opera, which was included in the canon of works "worthy of Bayreuth" in 1901, Richard Wagner depicts a man who despairs of life and society. Composed in Paris in 1841, the work was only published in Dresden two years later. In his production, director Philipp Stölzl questions the image of women in this opera and consistently follows the plot from Senta's point of view - who is "sold" by her father and is supposed to wipe herself out for another man.
