After Órban was voted out of office in the Hungarian parliamentary elections in April 2026, the journalist Robert Misik remarked: "The fact that the democratic left ran demoralized and unsuccessfully against Orban for 15 years and then a moderate conservative came along and swept the autocrat away with great cunning should simply give us pause for thought." In any case, the democratic left seems to oscillate between helplessness, powerlessness and anger, self-referentiality and licking wounds. Successes seem rare, while demoralizing events are very frequent. Has the "left" simply fallen out of time? Or are there still reasons and grounds to insist on changing the world "from the left"? How would democratic left-wing politics have to change in order to get back on the offensive? Actress Caroline Peters and former Berlin mayor and cultural senator Klaus Lederer, author of the book "Mit links die Welt retten" (Saving the world with the left), will discuss and reflect on this with you.
