An event of the IKG
Roman Grinberg, singer, pianist, composer, entertainer - and one of the most influential voices of Yiddish music in Europe - invites you to a special celebration: Swingin' Hanukkah! Together with his top-class Yiddish Swing Big Band, he will light up the lights of the Jewish festival of lights on this evening - musically, emotionally and full of joie de vivre.
In this lively concert, Yiddish tradition, American swing, a pinch of Eastern European klezmer music and Latin American rhythms merge into a sound that touches, inspires and moves. Classics of the Yiddish repertoire - from soulful love songs to cheeky and cheerful chansons - are interpreted in rousing new arrangements.
With his warm timbre, trenchant humor and charismatic stage presence, Grinberg guides the audience through the evening - sometimes thoughtful, sometimes tongue-in-cheek, always authentic. His stories, explanations and anecdotes open doors into the Jewish world and make it clear what Hanukkah can also mean musically: Hope, resilience, light and joie de vivre.
The energetic brass sections of the big band, the jazzy foundation and the dance-like lightness of the arrangements create an atmosphere in which you can not only listen, but also dream, sing along and dance.
Swingin' Hanukkah is a feast for all the senses - an evening that combines tradition and the present, warms the heart and ears and makes the festival of lights sparkle musically.
