For the sake of his great love and to make his dream of a better life come true, young Hansel undergoes gender reassignment surgery and becomes Hedwig. But the surgery doesn’t go as planned, and a few centimeters—an “angry inch”—are left between his legs. Disillusioned and abandoned by her lover, Hedwig
in America, living off the water. Until she finds a new love in Tommy. She composes songs for him, turning him into a global superstar. While he climbs to the pinnacle of success with her stolen songs, Hedwig is left all alone. She decides to go on tour with her band “The Angry Inch,” which takes her back to Europe—and thus right into her own past and the search for her identity.
