Erwin Steinhauer & klezmer reloaded extended
For your sake ...
An evening at Cafe Benatzky & Leopoldi
Dates
Info
Cafe Benatzky - Leopoldi serves up a very special musical melange. One was a piano humorist and entertainer, the other a highly successful author-composer for theater, operetta and film.
Hermann Leopoldi, forced to emigrate to America as a Jew, just as successful there as in his old homeland, loved and celebrated after his return to Austria until his death.
Ralph Benatzky, responsible for many highly successful operettas, including the "Weiße Rössel", present in many major European cities, leaves Europe out of disgust at the Nazi regime of the 1930s and to protect his Jewish lover, but is unable to gain a foothold in America, refuses offers from the UFA to work for German films from exile, returns after the war and is forgotten.
Two lives, two fates, two careers compared.
Klezmer, jazz and Viennese song combine to create a special blend. Oh Luise ... in Barnabittengasse ... What do you have to gain if I love you ... In a small café in Hernals ... and so on.
This musical delicacy is prepared by one of the best klezmer bands in the country and served by a head waiter with perfection, heart and dedication.
