An evening with Georges Bizet and his 'Carmen'
As with La Traviata 2025, Georges Bizet himself will lead through the evening, narrating the plot and revealing exciting details about the creation of his only successful opera. The audience is immersed in the story of the seductive Carmen, who casts a spell over all the men and changes the life of the shy soldier Don José forever. Between love, jealousy, freedom and betrayal, a gripping drama full of rousing melodies, burning emotions and great passion unfolds.
Second season at Heumarkt
After the successful opening in front of the Belvedere with 'Don Giovanni', and the move to Vienna's Heumarkt in the second season, the opera arena at Heumarkt 2026 will once again become the stage for one of the greatest and most beautiful operas of our time.
International opera stars for the 'bullring'
With Isabel Leonard, Na'ama Goldman and Ezgi Kutlu, three internationally acclaimed mezzo-sopranos have been confirmed as Carmen. Oreste Cosimo and Dumitru Mitu will perform the role of Don José. The proven leading team of the Vienna Opera Summer remains unchanged: Joji Hattori will once again take over the musical direction and artistic direction, Dominik Am Zehnhof-Söns will be responsible for staging and casting, Jessica Wurzer for choreography. Manfred Waba, who already led the spectacular transformation of the Vienna Ice-Skating Club into an opera arena in 2025, will also be responsible for the further development of the venue for 'Carmen' in 2026.
