The early years
The roots of black gospels and spirituals go back to the beginning of the 18th century. At that time, African slaves developed their first English-language hymns in the foreign land of America. At that time, they still had their very own moral ideas and religious convictions.
The history of the ensemble
For almost twenty years, we traveled throughout the United States, proclaiming the Good News in churches and theaters. During this time, I have had the privilege of experiencing some of the best gospel singers America has to offer. But no matter where my travels took me, I always kept my ears open.
In my own church in Harlem, the dream was born to bring some of the best American gospel singers together as a group to share their spiritual fire with our brothers and sisters in Europe. Thanks to the help of our producers and promoters, we can now live this dream.
When the singers of " The Christmas Gospel " ensemble raise their crystal-clear voices to the highest registers both at the beginning and at the end of the concert, a shiver regularly runs through the audience. That is the spirit of gospel - is a frequently heard opinion about the performance of " The Christmas Gospel ".
But the gospel classics such as "Oh Happy Day", Amazing Grace and
"When the Saints" are of course also part of the ensemble's repertoire, which is particularly impressive due to the balance of the female and male voices.
Gospel - classical music and modern soul ballads - emotion and temperament are combined here to create a fascinating experience. After more than 500 concerts in Germany and Austria between 2000 and 2024, we can expect sold-out churches and concert halls on The Christmas Gospel 's upcoming tour thanks to the different experiences they have gained on stage and their well-known lucky hand in selecting their singers.
It's a concert - but the atmosphere of the famous services of the Black Churches makes the audience on the big Austrian tour in 2025 part of the "community". It is the cheerful contemplation that makes these " Christmas Gospel" concerts an extraordinary event.
