"I owe my life to two people: Leopold Figl and John Lennon. Leopold Figl persuaded the Russians to release Austria, which had been occupied after the Second World War, and a few years later John Lennon founded the Beatles." A little later, the Stones sang "Time is on my side" and the Kinks "I'm not like everybody else" - a kind of road map for the young Cornelius.
He was nominated for a Grammy for his guitar work on "Enigma".
Peter Cornelius is the most successful Austrian singer/songwriter of all time in Germany. Among other things, Peter Cornelius was the only Austrian artist to make it into the German ranking of the world's greatest singer/songwriters. "I was stunned, I am shocked that I have overtaken one of my idols, Bob Dylan, in the ranking."
