"Lace Up" is the battle cry with which Machine Gun Kelly - MGK for short - has been shaking up the hip-hop world for several years now. Born Colson Baker in Houston, Texas in April 1990, MGK had to move several times as a child - he even lived in Egypt at one point! - which was to break up his family very early on: "My mother had already left when I was just nine years old," reports the now 26-year-old, who spent a large part of his youth in Denver. After seeing DMX's clip for "We Right Here" in seventh grade, he began to put his own experiences into raps - but without forgetting his rock and punk roots. "I was given the name Machine Gun Kelly because I can rap as fast as a machine gun," says MGK, who played his first concerts at the age of 15.
