About Josh:

Johannes Sumpich, known by his stage name Josh, is one of the most influential voices in Austrian pop music. He grew up in the Alterlaa residential park in Vienna and began his musical education as a child with classical guitar. He spent his first formative years at the Waldorf School in Vienna-Mauer and at the grammar school in Anton-Krieger-Gasse, where he also gained early experience in school bands. It was during this time that he came up with the stage name Josh, which has been inextricably linked to his musical identity ever since.

After school, he studied jazz at the Vienna Conservatory for several years. At the same time, he developed a strong affinity for popular music, which eventually led to a move to the newly founded Institute for Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy with a focus on popular music. During her studies, her musical career was financed by performances, band projects and professional activities in the IT sector.

His first own releases appeared in 2014 with the EP Wie im Kino. Further performances followed in collaboration with Kathi Kallauch, as well as the song Kein Sommer für einen allein, which won the 2016 Radio Vienna summer hit poll. Funding from the Austrian Music Fund enabled the consistent further development of their artistic work.

The breakthrough came in 2018 with the song Cordula Grün, which quickly became one of Austria's best-known summer hits and marked the start of a successful career under the name Josh. In 2019, the debut album Von Mädchen und Farben was released, followed by Teilzeitromantik (2021) and Reparatur (2023), a work that deals with personal crises and how to deal with them. 2025 saw the release of the first live album (Es ist alles in Ordnung), recorded at a concert in the Wiener Stadthalle. The fourth studio album Wer singt dann Lieder für dich followed in April 2026.

In addition to his own releases, Josh was a participant in the Free European Song Contest for Austria, worked as a songwriter on productions by other artists and was a permanent jury member of the ORF casting show Starmania in 2022. His music combines pop, depth and personal narratives and has become an integral part of the Austrian music landscape.
