Info
Sommer was born Dietmar Sommer in Steyr, grew up in the Mühlviertel, but lives and works in Vienna because there is no work for him in the Mühlviertel.
When his young parents decided to get married in 1976, Sommer also changed his name to Ebenhofer, which he still is in real life.
Sommer speaks fluent Mühlviertlerisch and German and a little English, is active in lyrical, visual, graphic and technical areas of art in front of, on, behind and under the stage and can be seen standing, sitting, lying and sometimes even upside down.
In April 2008, he was among others on stage at the Theater Forum Schwechat with the "Tellerstücke", where he was also a permanent part of the "Dienstag nach Vorschrift" (Tuesday by the book) created by Johannes C. Hoflehner from 2005-2010. From 2005 to 2010, Didi Sommer led the monthly AUGUSTIN writing workshop. His first reading and audio book with the equally promising title "Du Sau" was published to coincide with the premiere of his first solo program at Theater Forum.
From 2012 to 2014, he toured throughout Austria together with Paul Pizzera, Wolfgang Feistritzer alias Petutschnig Hons and BlöZinger under the pseudonym "Die lange Nacht des Kabaretts". He plays with film and television, but doesn't tell anyone, so he doesn't advertise it.
He supplements his pocket money as Klaus Eckel's employee of the month. You could also say it's his apprenticeship.
From autumn 2018 to the end of 2022 (but there was something in between...) he performed his second solo program entitled "Aufschneidn".
Didi tells a story of the country as Pirklbauer Willi Speck eating bacon, but claims to be a vegetarian...
Since September 2019, he has once again been part of the "Lange Nacht des Kabaretts" and winner of the "Silberner Scharfrichterbeil", one of the most prestigious German-language cabaret awards. In 2022 he brought home the "Salzburger Sprössling" and from spring 2023 to spring 2025 he performed his third solo program "Auftrumpfn".
In January 2025 he won the "Pongauer Sprössling" and in fall 2025 he started his fourth solo program with the title "Endlich Sommer!" at Kabarett Niedermair.
In February 2026, he will perform together with Eva Maria Marold, Christoph Fälbl and Samantha Steppan in the Casanova production "Leichenschmaus", a play by Leo Maria Bauer and Ernst Gabriel Vokurek.
He is delighted.
