Info

Andrea Bocelli, born on September 22, 1958 in Lajatico (Tuscany), is an Italian tenor who has sold over 90 million albums worldwide. Affected by glaucoma from birth, he lost his sight completely at the age of twelve - but developed a passion for music at an early age, learning the piano, flute and saxophone. After studying law at the University of Pisa, he briefly worked as a lawyer before turning to music full-time and learning classical singing technique from Franco Corelli and other teachers.

His breakthrough came in 1992 with the duet "Miserere" for Zucchero, recorded for Luciano Pavarotti, who recognized an exceptional talent in Bocelli. In 1994, he won the Sanremo competition with "Il mare calmo della sera", launching his career as a crossover artist. His albums such as Romanza (15 million sales) and Sacred Arias are among the best-selling classical and pop combinations.

Bocelli is known for his combination of operatic repertoire and pop songs - in performances for presidents, popes, in opera houses, stadiums and during the Expo - and has been awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (2010), among other honors. His voice is often seen as an emotional bridge between classical singing and mass-market music.
