Japanese Folk Fusion

When tradition meets avant-garde: Mitsune combine Japanese folk music with the wild, colorful sounds of psychedelia, jazz and film music. At the center is the tsugaru shamisen, a three-stringed lute whose archaic sound comes to vibrant life in the hands of the two musicians - accompanied by driving percussion, warm double bass and polyphonic vocals.
With great enthusiasm, virtuosity and a sense for theatrical staging, the Berlin quartet transforms the stage into a visual and musical feast. Their songs tell of ancient myths, inner journeys and the power of cultural encounters.

The ensemble, with musicians from Japan, Australia and Greece, has attracted international attention in a very short space of time. Their album Hazama (2022) was celebrated by Rolling Stone and Songlines Magazine, made it into the top 10 of the Transglobal World Music Charts and was nominated for the German Record Critics' Award.

Mitsune stand for modern folklore in the best sense of the word: boundless, sensual and captivating.
