Brazilian soundscapes between breathlessness and verve
Lívia Mattos is many things at the same time: accordionist, singer, songwriter, sociologist, filmmaker - and a charismatic stage personality from Salvador da Bahia. Her music moves between Brazilian roots and global rhythms, between depth and lightness, breathlessness and verve.
After years alongside artists such as Rosa Passos, Badi Assad and Chico César, she released her first album Vinha da Ida in 2017, a work full of poetic lyrics and unexpected arrangements. This was followed by tours through Europe, China and the USA as well as the album Apneia (2022), which is dedicated to the breathlessness of our time and produced the award-winning single of the same name. The third part of her musical trilogy is now being released with Verve - full of energy, playfulness and a love of experimentation.
On stage, Lívia Mattos transforms the weight of the accordion into pure lightness. Together with Jefferson Babu on tuba and Rafael dos Santos on drums, they create music that combines tradition and avant-garde, groove and poetry - an invitation to experience sound with all your senses.
"An energy bomb, characterized by the unmistakable Brazilian way of presenting voice and rhythm in music." (Il Manifesto)
