The Success Story
It is arguably the greatest love story of all time and enjoyed resounding success in Vienna as a musical. Twenty years later, Romeo & Juliet is finally returning to Vienna in a staged concert performance!

“ROMEO AND JULIET – The Musical” is Gérard Presgurvic’s first musical production based on William Shakespeare’s original story. Following its world premiere on January 19, 2001, at the Palais de Congrès in Paris, this spectacular production became THE musical event in France and has taken the world by storm, attracting over 11 million attendees to date. From the European metropolis of Paris, the production went on tour throughout France and from there continued to Canada, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary, Russia, the Philippines, Japan, China, and, in 2005, to Vienna for its German-language premiere.

Back in Vienna after 20 years—the cast
The acclaimed lead actors back then were Marjan Shaki and Lukas Perman—and they are the very ones who will bring this hit musical to the Wiener Stadthalle in a staged-concert production on November 13 and 14, 2026, Hall F. Alongside audience favorites from the 2005–06 production such as Carin Filipčić (Nurse), Mark Seibert (Tybalt), Mathias Edenborn (Benvolio), Peter Lesiak (Mercutio), and Norman Stehr (Prince), “new” artists will take on other roles.
The role of Romeo will be played by rising star Lukas Mayer (known for his role as Death in *Elisabeth*, among others). At his side, the enchanting Amelie Sarich will make her debut as a newcomer in the role of Juliet. Other top cast members include musical theater stars Annemieke van Dam and André Bauer as Lady and Lord Capulet.
The musical’s former title stars will return in 2026 in the roles of initiators, producers, organizers, and artistic directors.

Lukas Perman:“You always have to gauge when the time is right for something. And for us, now is the right time to revive this wonderful French musical in Vienna with the orchestration and German translation from 2005–2006—in a different role: as organizers and producers.”

Romeo & Juliet 2025 – Magical Music and Sand Art
Following its huge success in France, *Romeo & Juliet* was first performed in German at Vienna’s Raimund Theater in February 2005 and was sold out through June 2006. In addition to a gold record for the cast album, the single “Your Eyes Are My River” (Liebe), sung by Marjan Shaki and Lukas Perman, reached No. 3 on the Austrian charts at the time and was nominated for an Amadeus Award. “Herrscher der Welt,” “Siehe da sie liebt,” “Habt ihr schon gehört,” and “Liebe” are, among many others, the best-known hits from this Franco-pop musical sensation. The staged concert performance marking the 20th anniversary at the Wiener Stadthalle will feature the entire score of the 2005–06 Vienna production, performed by an orchestra based on arrangements by Christian Kolonovits, in German with translations by Michaela Ronzoni. The story of Romeo & Juliet will be illustrated and visually brought to life live through the art of sand painting by, among others, the exceptional artist Irina Titova—The Queen of Sand.
